Baton Rouge is the capital city of Louisiana. The name is derived from a French phrase meaning �red stick,� and is the second largest city in the state.

Baton Rouge is home to two major universities and one community college. The Southern University Jaguars, the Louisiana State University Tigers and Baton Rouge Community College Bears have an overall total enrollment of over 32,000 students. Baton Rouge has a thriving downtown scene that mixes culture, music and food. Hot spot locations include The Shaw Center for the Arts, which is a multi-use museum, theatre and arts complex. Baton Rouge holds significant historical landmarks that are within walking distance of the Belle of Baton Rouge. The Old State Capital and Governor�s Mansions are tourist favorites. Visitors who enjoy the outdoors enjoy a stroll along the Mississippi River Levee, which is also upgraded as a Bike Path. This path stretches 4.31 miles long from the end of the downtown promenade to Farr Park at LSU. The path also includes seating, water fountains and lighting.
